Before Totality
I had the amazing good fortune to be on an airplane flying from the West to East Coast for the entire duration of the solar eclipse on April 18. I was in a window seat on the right side of the airplane and our route followed then crossed the path at totality over Indianapolis. It truly was one of the most awesome and humbling events to witness at 30,000 ft. I knew I had to paint what I saw, if only to remember this once-in-a lifetime experience. I began with a watercolor underpainting onto which I applied pastel.
