A Poplar Spring Dance
"A Poplar Spring Dance" celebrated spring in the Yukon. On May 20th, 2024, I photographed a small field of Poplar trees near Lake Laberge in the Yukon. The leaves had bloomed, and the morning light was dancing across the trees. I did a 4x5 inch value study using a variety of pencils and mapped out my composition. Utilizing the value study and photograph as a reference, I started the painting on May 24th, 2024, using 400 grit Uart paper. I did a light gouache underpainting and completed the painting with a mixture of soft pastels.
