Familiar Phoenix

This was from my own, not so great photo reference... But there was something about the pose and expression that I really wanted to convey. I started out with pan pastels for some loose, underpainting strokes, then came in with juicier soft pastels and at the very end cut back in and refined the edges and backgrounds with some lovely gritty Diane Townsend terrages.
