Before the Hurricane
This sunset taken on the shoreline of Boca Grande Island on the Gulf of Mexico lasts only a few minutes. I took this shot shortly before Florida's last hurricane. The area was devastated! I am reminded how quickly nature can change and alter it's own environment. The coast is now back to it's peaceful tranquil original state, somewhat different, but just as beautiful! My technique was different in this painting: I sprayed alcohol on the surface 'after' many, many layers of soft pastel causing the top pigment to bead up slightly allowing the undercoats to come through. Also, I painted this with soft pastels on Sennelier "oil pastel" paper which gave the painting an ever-so-slight textural affect underneath.
