Old Dunes

This pastel painting was created in response to an oil plein air painting I did of very old large sand dunes on Oak Island, NC many years ago. This is an image I have always loved. I used my photo reference along with a photo of my plein air painting which was sold many years ago. It was the shapes of the vegetation and cast shadows, and the bright light on the sand that drew me to paint this.
