The desert nurtures color even as it craves water. A tiny spring creates this small oasis just above the Rio Grande, where timeworn rocks shade hardy grasses and cactus. Using both very heavy and feathery light applications of pastel, I let unexpected color tell the story of this complex ecosystem.
