Although I love using bright colors in my paintings, I wanted to try a moody piece and felt it would best be reflected in a black setting using grays and whites for hair and muscle shape. Most of my paintings are of animals and I wanted it to be in a solemn overtone, without using eyes to reflect the mood. I believe my black horse with minimal light reflection accomplished that.
