Morning's Promise
The premise behind the painting's title, "Morning's Promise", is that the start of a new day brings hope of better things to come. I used cool, dark blue and blue green colors to represent the ice cold darkness of night. As the sun rises, it reflects on the ice crystals, snowy fields, and valley fog. Here, I used pale pink and orange to represent the warmth of the sun. The ice and snow covered stream leads you out of the darkness and into the morning light. I added some texture and sparkle in the foreground by shaving light values of blue and pink onto tree branches and snow banks. It feels good knowing you survived a cold night and now being welcomed by the morning sun.
