Still Life with Plant and Cup
Still Life with Plant and Cup was created in an apartment full of boxes and packing supplies. I was preparing to move, so most of what I owned was now in a box or sitting next to one. Most of my art supplies were packed, but the boxes remained open as there were a few more items to add before I closed them. Due to the distance of the move, I could not take my beloved plants! I had already given many away, and it was starting to cause lots of anxiety when I felt like there should have been excitement. I decided the only way to hang on to this last plant was to paint it! I had one coffee cup and its saucer, so I paired it with the plant and created this still life. The leaves on this type of plant are so vivid and shiny that I decided to surround them with soft, muted tones to not compete with the intense evergreen of the leaves. I was so happy to have this painting with me, and as I unpacked it in my new home, it brought back such precious memories!
