Scott Monument, Edinburgh
Inspired by the impressionist painters, I chose a purple cast for the Scott monument in the background. Shapes on the hill above the river are implied which can fool the brain into recognition of the shapes. More detail in the foreground keeps the viewer grounded until they decide to look up and view the monument, seen here on a misty morning.
Pastelmat Sanguine Red was used to add depth and pinkish hues to the sky.
Other supplies used were Blue Earth “Land and Sea” for soft shades of blue.
Rembrandt soft pastels, various colors for underpainting.
Sennelier soft pastels for pops of color.
