Old Sage was inspired by a favorite place of mine on Missouri Heights, just outside of Carbondale, Colorado. I started with a sketch in pastel, then an underpainting using an alcohol wash. Once dry, I went back to reestablish my mountain scene overlooking Mt. Sopris. I used primarily Terry Ludwig soft pastels.
